ARIES, March 21-April 20. Adventurous and energetic, the Aries dog loves action- hiking, romping with human and canine companions and racing around the Dog Park unrestrained by the leash are just a few of his favorite pastimes. A lover of freedom as well as challenges, this dog is more apt to escape from the yard by opening the gate latch than by digging under the fence. A natural born leader, the Aries dog loves coming in first. If there are more pets in the household, it's wise to place this dog's food bowl down before the others. Aries' "take charge" nature may make them harder to train, as they may be unwilling to obey if they don't respect you. Extremely devoted, the Aries dog may feel he has adopted you, and will defend those he loves to the point of laying down his life so that his family might live. And when changing residences, be sure all of this dog's personal belongings are in the new dwelling before he arrives to reassure him that some things always remain the same. Taurean dogs are highly attached to their material possessions-toys, beds, blankets and other comforts are likely not to be shared. Try getting your Taurus dog off his favorite chair or place on the sofa and you'll know this is true. Home loving by nature the Cancerian dog is purposeful, energetic, and tenaciously loyal. Their especially keen sense of hearing and tendency to be emotional may cause them at times to create a tempest in a teapot, barking furiously at someone or something a block away, that they think is an eminent threat to their household. LEO, July 23 to August 22. Extroverted, dominant, self-confident and courageous, the Leo dog is the center of attention. Whether being the clown or protecting his family in the forefront of danger, this dog's personal magnetism is so strong, you can't help but fall in love with him. Leonians think and act bigger than others, so if your small dog is a Leo, he thinks he's a Great Dane. VIRGO, August 23 to September 23. Intelligent, a bit shy and restrained when meeting new people, but very loving and devoted to family members, the Virgo dog is a "thinker"-you can see those wheels working. Careful and analytical, this dog looks before he leaps, and rather than wolfing down a meal is inclined to sniff at his food to "check it out" before eating. Virgos are loyal, reliable and patient. They will wait by the door or watch out the window for as long as it takes until you come home, then express their love with their eyes and vigorous tail wagging rather than jumping on you and showering you with kisses. Virgo dogs enjoy working and their diligence makes them excellent trackers and Rescue dogs. Fastidious by nature, they love being brushed, and while a roll on the lawn is fun, you won't find a Virgo dog rolling in the mud. Rather than playing, Virgos like being needed, and happily perform tasks. LIBRA, September 24 to October 23. Gentle, kind and even mellow, the Libra dog is easy going and easy to get along with. Relaxing on the sofa or in a special chair are favorite pastimes. Their laid-back temperament makes them ideal city dogs and apartment dwellers, preferring an hour's romp in the park to a day in the country. SCORPIO, October 24 to November 22. Determined, intuitive and innately curious, the Scorpio dog learns things so quickly, it seems that he was born with his head filled with knowledge. The rebel of the Zodiac, Scorpions need to see the relevance of what they are learning, or this clever dog may be among the most disobedient. Their love of meaningful work makes them great herding dogs, guardians of children and excellent Guide and Companion Service Dogs for the blind and disabled. Intense and deeply emotional, these dogs often become attached to one particular person, raising their hair and growling at visitors who get too close to the object of their affection. Jovial and good-humored, Sag dogs are rarely out of sorts-just being around them makes you feel good. Whether bounding into bed to wake you early in the morning, or nudging you to go on a nocturnal walk, Sagittarius dogs will keep you from becoming a couch potato. A great companion for families with children, this fun-loving dog will play with the kids tirelessly. CAPRICORN, December 22 to January 20. Steadfast, reliable and calm, the Capricorn dog has strength of character that makes him one of the most unyielding signs of the Zodiac. This dog will persist against personal hardship putting their human family or special companion before their own needs and welfare to reach their objectives long after others have given up and fallen by the wayside. Capricorn dogs are capable of pulling a child from a burning building, walking for miles to bring help to an injured companion or going without food and water to stay by the side of someone dear to them who is ill. Wary and cautious around humans they don't know very well, these dogs form very few close attachments, but when they do, they are intensely loyal to the people and animals they have chosen.
